What Exterior Car Detailing Actually Means
Exterior car detailing is a deep clean and protection service for everything outside your vehicle. It covers paint, wheels, tires, glass and trim.
A car wash removes loose dirt. A detail removes what the wash leaves behind. Then it adds protection, so the next wash comes off easier.
That difference matters in West Palm Beach. Our sun, salt air, sprinklers and afternoon storms bond contamination to your paint fast. A quick rinse does not pull it out.
What Is Included in Our Exterior Detail
| Step | What we do | Why it matters in West Palm Beach |
|---|---|---|
| Pre rinse and spot check | Rinse loose dirt and sand. Check bumpers, mirrors and hood for bugs, tar and sap | Sand and salt scratch paint if you scrub them dry |
| Wheels, barrels and tires | Clean wheel faces, barrels and tires with the right brush for each | Brake dust is hot, sharp and sticks to wheels |
| Hand wash | Foam, then a hand wash with a pH neutral shampoo and clean microfiber | Protects existing wax and avoids swirl marks |
| Iron decontamination | Spray an iron remover. It often turns purple as it dissolves metal particles | Brake dust and road dust embed in paint |
| Clay treatment | Glide clay over the paint to lift bonded dirt | Leaves paint smooth so sealant bonds properly |
| Dry and detail jambs | Dry with clean towels. Wipe door, hood and trunk jambs | Water left in jambs drips and spots later |
| Glass | Clean outside glass and mirrors | Rain and sprinkler minerals leave haze |
| Trim and tire dressing | Restore faded plastic trim. Dress tires | Sun fades black trim to grey |
| Paint protection | Apply a sealant or wax to every painted panel | Cuts UV exposure and makes lovebugs easier to remove |
Wheel, Tire and Brake Dust Cleaning
Wheels take the worst abuse on your car. Brake dust, road film and heat bake onto them every day. Interstate 95, Okeechobee Boulevard and Military Trail traffic add more.
Here is how we handle them:
Brake dust
It contains tiny metal particles. They stick to wheel faces and eat into the finish if they stay. We dissolve them with a product made for your wheel type. Harsh acids can damage clear coated and polished wheels, so we match the cleaner to the finish.
Wheel wells and tires
We scrub the tire sidewall to remove old dressing and brown oxidation. Then we rinse the wheel well.
Barrels
The barrel is the inner part of the wheel behind the spokes. Most car washes skip it. We clean it with a long soft brush so dust stops flying back onto clean paint.
Tire dressing
We apply a thin even coat and wipe the excess so it does not sling onto your paint when you drive. You get a clean dark finish, not a greasy shine.
A wheel detail takes time, and it changes how the whole car looks. Clean wheels also make the paint look better.
Headlight Restoration in West Palm Beach
Florida sun clouds headlights. The plastic lens has a clear protective layer. UV breaks it down. The lens turns yellow, then hazy.
This matters for safety. Cloudy lenses scatter light and cut how far you see on dark stretches like A1A and Okeechobee Boulevard at night.
What we do:
- Clean and mask the area around the headlight.
- Sand the lens in stages to remove the oxidized layer.
- Polish the plastic back to clear.
- Seal the lens with a UV protective coating.
What restoration cannot fix:
- Moisture or fog inside the lens
- Cracks or pitting that go deep into the plastic
- Burned out or aimed wrong bulbs
Restored lenses can fade again if the UV protection is not renewed. We tell you what to expect for your car.
Exterior Trim Restoration
Black plastic trim fades fast under Florida sun. It turns grey, then chalky. That look makes a clean car look old.
What dressing can do:
- Bring back a deep, even color
- Add UV protection that slows more fading
- Make the trim easier to wipe clean
What dressing cannot do:
- Fix cracked, warped or brittle trim
- Last forever. Dressings wear off with washing and weather
- Repair deeply oxidized plastic. That needs a restorer or replacement
We clean the trim first, then apply a dressing made for outdoor plastic. We keep it off your paint and glass. A greasy or sticky finish attracts dust, so we do not use heavy products.
Glass, Windshield and Mirror Water Spot Removal
Water spots on glass look like a haze or white rings. They come from sprinkler overspray and afternoon rain. The sun dries the water and leaves minerals behind.
A normal glass cleaner often smears the spots instead of lifting them. We use a glass polish made for mineral deposits and work in small sections. Then we clean the glass and check it from several angles in the light.
Why it matters:
- Spotted glass reflects glare at sunrise and sunset
- Worn wipers drag minerals across the windshield and leave streaks
- Heavy spotting makes night driving harder
Quick tip: Wipe fresh water spots with a clean microfiber right away. Do not scrape. Replace worn wiper blades, since old rubber smears every rainstorm.
We clean outside glass and mirrors as part of your exterior detail. Heavy mineral removal may take extra time.
Exterior Detail vs. Car Wash vs. Paint Correction
| Car wash | Exterior detail | Paint correction | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Removes loose dirt | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Removes bonded contamination | No | Yes | Yes |
| Adds paint protection | Sometimes a spray wax | Yes, sealant or wax | Yes, after polishing |
| Removes swirls and light scratches | No | No | Yes |
| Best for | Weekly upkeep | Protection and deep clean | Dull, swirled paint |
Most cars need an exterior detail first. Paint correction comes when the surface itself is damaged. If you are not sure which one you need, text us a photo of your hood in daylight.
Need the inside done too? See our interior car detailing service.
Signs Your Car Needs an Exterior Detail in West Palm Beach
Your paint tells you when it needs help. Most owners miss the signs because they build slowly. Check your car in daylight, in the shade, after a wash.
Rough paint after washing
Run your hand over the hood inside a thin plastic bag. Grit or bumps mean bonded dirt, brake dust or overspray sits on the paint. A wash will not lift it. Clay will.
Water sits flat
When water beads tight and rolls off, your protection still works. When it spreads in sheets, the wax or sealant is gone.
A chalky or dull hood, roof or trunk
These panels take the most sun. Fading starts here first.
Bug etching
Small marks left on the bumper, mirrors and hood after lovebug season mean the acid reached the clear coat.
White rings and spots
Sprinkler and rain minerals dry on the surface. Fresh spots wipe off. Old rings do not.
Faded black trim
Grey plastic around windows and bumpers means UV has dried it out.
Cloudy headlights
Yellow or hazy lenses cut your light at night.
Brown stains under trees
Wet leaves leave tannin marks that a normal wash does not remove.
Tar, sap or overspray
Sticky spots on the lower panels or roof mean contamination has bonded.
Two or more signs? Book an exterior detail. One sign? Text us a photo and we tell you what it needs.
Why West Palm Beach Is Hard on Your Paint
Your car does not face the same conditions in Ohio. Here is what it deals with here.
Lovebug season
Lovebugs fly twice a year in Florida. University of Florida IFAS Extension places the flights in April to May and August to September. In Central and South Florida, the heaviest flights run from late April through May and early September into early October.
The remains are acidic. Heat bakes them into the clear coat. UF guidance says to soak and wash within about 20 minutes of a drive when you can, and other Florida sources treat 48 hours as the outer limit before etching risk climbs.
The damage shows up on your front bumper, mirrors, hood and windshield first. Bugs can also clog radiator fins.
Our lovebug routine:
- Soak the bug zones so the remains soften.
- Lift them with foam and a clean mitt. We never dry scrub.
- Use clay on residue that stays behind.
- Seal the paint so the next flight rinses off easier.
Book before the flight. A sealed car in early April or late August has a real advantage over a bare one.
Sun and heat
Hoods, roofs and trunk lids take the most sun, so they fade first. UV breaks down clear coat over time. You see dull patches, then a chalky look, then peeling on neglected paint.
Protection on the paint slows this down. It does not stop it. Parking in shade or a garage helps more than anything you can buy.
Sprinkler overspray and hard water
Overspray from lawn irrigation is a common cause of spots on cars parked near grass in South Florida. The water carries minerals. The sun evaporates the water and leaves the minerals behind. Left long enough, they etch the clear coat.
Some irrigation water also carries iron. It can leave orange stains on paint, glass and trim.
Fresh spots wipe off with a clean microfiber and a quick detailer. Old rings need polish.
Salt air and sand
Cars that live near the Intracoastal, Palm Beach, Singer Island and A1A collect salt mist and fine sand. Salt holds moisture against metal. It speeds corrosion on exposed parts.
Rinse your car after beach trips. Do not wipe sand dry.
Wet leaves, tree sap and bird droppings
Wet leaves can leave brown stains on paint. Tannins in the leaves stain clear coat when they sit in heat and humidity. Sap and bird droppings add acid on top.
A tree overhead means a faster schedule. Check your hood and roof every week.
Rain spots and road film
Afternoon storms leave mineral spots on glass and paint. Traffic on Interstate 95, Okeechobee Boulevard, Southern Boulevard and Military Trail leaves road film and brake dust on wheels and lower panels.
Hurricane season
Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. After a storm, rinse off salt and debris. Do not leave wet leaves sitting on paint. Book a detail once the roads are clear and your car has dried out.
Exterior Detailing for Every Vehicle We See in Palm Beach County
Every vehicle has its own needs. We pick the tools, products and pressure for the car in front of us.
Luxury and exotic cars
Premium paint shows every mistake. We use a gentle hand wash, clean microfiber and the lightest method that gets the job done. No brush washes. No shortcuts.
Tell us the make, model and any paint protection film or ceramic coating on the car. That changes the products we pick.
SUVs and trucks
More paint means more time. Roofs, running boards and truck beds need extra reach and care. Lifted trucks take longer to rinse, and large SUVs collect more sap, tar and road film on lower panels.
Pricing reflects size. See the price table above.
Electric vehicles and Teslas
Electric vehicles carry cameras, radar and sensors across the body. They also have charge ports.
- We keep strong water pressure away from the charge port, door seams and sensor areas.
- We use gentle pressure around cameras and sensors.
- We never use harsh cleaners on lenses or sensor covers.
Black and dark paint
Dark paint shows swirl marks and water spots first. Sun heats it fast, so spots bake on quickly. We wash in small sections, dry right away and work in shade when we can. Sealant makes a big difference on dark colors.
Classic and collector cars
Older paint can be thin or single stage. Aggressive clay and polish can remove too much. We test a small spot first and use the gentlest method. If your car has fragile or original paint, tell us before we start.
Work vans and small fleets
A clean van is a moving advertisement. We can set up recurring visits for vans, trucks and small fleets in Palm Beach County.
Exterior Detail Before You Sell or Return a Leased Car
A clean car sells for a better first impression. Paint that looks smooth and glossy in photos gets more calls. Wheels, glass and trim also matter to buyers in person.
For selling:
- Buyers judge condition in the first minute
- Clean paint, wheels and trim support your asking price
- Photos taken after a detail look sharper
For lease returns:
- Inspectors check paint, wheels and glass for wear and damage
- A detail shows the car was cared for
- A detail will not remove dents, deep scratches or curb rash, so get an inspection early
We do not hide damage. We clean what can be cleaned and tell you what needs repair before you hand the car over.

Frequently Asked Questions About Exterior Car Detailing in West Palm Beach
How much does exterior car detailing cost in West Palm Beach?
Mobile exterior details in Palm Beach County commonly run from about $130 to $250 for a standard car, based on public listings reviewed in 2026. Size, paint condition and bug or sap buildup move the price. Our exterior detail starts at $110. Call for an exact quote.
Wax, Sealant or Ceramic: What Holds Up in Florida
| Protection | What it is | How long it lasts | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carnauba wax | Natural wax. Deep warm shine | Shortest. Weeks to a few months | Show cars and owners who like to reapply |
| Paint sealant | Synthetic polymer. Bonds to paint | Longer. Commonly several months | Daily drivers parked outside |
| Ceramic spray | Silica based topper. Strong water beading | Months, depending on the product | Easy upkeep between details |
| Ceramic coating | A harder, multi year coating applied after prep | Years, depending on the product and care | Owners who want long term protection |
A ceramic coating does not make paint scratch proof. It makes washing easier and adds UV and chemical resistance. We will tell you if a sealant is the smarter choice for your car and budget.
How Often Should You Detail Your Car in South Florida?
| When | Why |
|---|---|
| March to early April | Seal the paint before the spring lovebug flight |
| Late August | Seal again before the late summer flight |
| June | Rainy season and hurricane season begin |
| November | Hurricane season ends. Clean off summer buildup before the busy winter season |
| Every 2 to 4 weeks | Maintenance wash for cars parked outside |
Cars parked in a garage can stretch these gaps. Cars under trees, near sprinklers or close to the water need them shorter.
How long does an exterior detail take?
Plan on 2 to 3 hours for most cars. Large SUVs, trucks and heavily contaminated paint take longer. We tell you the time estimate before we start.
What is the difference between exterior detailing and a car wash?
A car wash removes loose dirt. Exterior detailing also removes bonded contamination like brake dust, tar and sap, then adds paint protection. The paint feels smooth and water beads off it.
Is a mobile exterior detail worth it in Florida?
Yes, if your car lives outside. Sun, salt, lovebugs and mineral spots all damage clear coat over time. Protected paint also washes faster. A garage kept car needs it less often.
How do I remove lovebugs from my car?
Soak the area with water to soften the remains. Wash with car soap and a clean mitt. Do it as soon as you can, ideally within hours, since the acid etches clear coat. Do not scrub dry. Book a detail if etching has already started.
How do I remove sprinkler water spots?
Wipe fresh spots with a clean microfiber and quick detailer. Do not scrub. Dried rings that stay after a wash have usually etched the clear coat. They need clay or polish.
How often should I detail my car in South Florida?
Seal the paint twice a year, before the spring and late summer lovebug flights. Wash every two to four weeks if you park outside. Park near trees, sprinklers or the water? Go shorter.
Wax, sealant or ceramic: which is best for Florida heat?
Sealant is the best value for most daily drivers. Wax gives warm shine but wears faster. Ceramic spray adds easy upkeep. A ceramic coating lasts longest but costs more and needs prep.
Can you detail my car at my condo, HOA community or office?
Often yes. Many communities have rules on washing vehicles. Check with your property manager first. Ask us about a low water option.
Will exterior detailing remove scratches and swirl marks?
No. An exterior detail cleans and protects. Light scratches and swirls need paint correction. Deep scratches that cut through clear coat need paint repair.
What happens if it rains after my detail?
Rain after a sealed detail is rarely a problem once the product has cured. We tell you the cure window for the product we use. If rain is forecast, we reschedule before we start.
Do you detail trucks, SUVs, luxury and classic cars?
Yes. We adjust the products and tools for each vehicle. Tell us the make and model when you book so we plan the right time and method.
Do I need to be home?
No. Many customers leave the car at work or at their building. We confirm access with you by text before we arrive.
